Reflections of being a Baby Buddie
When I was pregnant I had this perfect image like every expectant mother about breastfeeding my baby, it wasn’t going to hurt and everything was going to go well, little did I know. So I can understand why mums choose to give up breastfeeding. If women have a Baby Buddie to support and advise them they can go on to breastfeed successfully. Naomi
I am happy I made the decision to do the breastfeeding support training, as in doing so I have made many more friends. With the knowledge I have learnt from the programme I feel confident in helping others. Our children have also been able to play with other children whilst we learn. Jody
I have had four children and have successfully fed three of them. I am still feeding the youngest. I heard about Baby Buddies on a SureStart activity day from Jane (midwife). I also helped on the second course. Gail
I have breastfed two of my three children successfully so I felt I could offer mums who are breastfeeding some support and advice. So when I was asked if I would be interested in being a Baby Buddie, I felt I would like to give something that I felt at times was lacking. Maxine

Seagulls Baby Café
“A Baby Café is a good idea; it is not just for breastfeeding mums but for antenatal ladies too.
A Baby Café can be a very friendly place to build confidence once baby is born as many new mums may lack confidence or shy away from feeding in public.
A Café is also a great place to discuss any problems, worries or difficulties in feeding due to the relaxed atmosphere where everyone is going through the same sort of experiences.
The whole experience of support, friendly atmosphere as well as the chance to socialise will leave mum more contented and will encourage her to breast feed baby longer. By having Baby Buddies there to help mum along she will feel that she is not alone with any problems she may have and will often find that many mums have had the same problems before. By sharing experiences mums knowledge will increase and she will realise how much more beneficial breastfeeding is and will be more likely to encourage other friends and family to do the same when they have their own babies.” - Maxine, Baby Buddie
The Seagulls Baby Café is open from 10 – 12 on Monday’s and Wednesday’s during term time in the kitchen at the Seagulls Centre.
